End of January...and some pictures.

I can't believe January is almost over. Sometimes I don't blog, well most of the time I don't blog because I feel like I need pictures to go with what I write. So here you'll get some pics and some ramblings. Here we are at the fire station. Chloe loves all things big. She loves trucks and trains, especially. When we first got in by the trucks she just stood there and squeeled and jumped up and down like she does when she is so excited.

This is Chloe with her best friend Taegan. She pretty much worships Taegan. They play pretty well together and then fight for a second and then are friends again. It's been really fun to have such good friends while we've been living in K-ville.
Chloe is super independent these days. She talks alot and puts a lot of sentences together. "sit by you." (she'll pat the seat next to her)"I yuv eww." (this isn't said to us, but rather she sings it to herself and the rest of the Barney song when she is in her bed along with twinkle twinkle and the abc song.)"Boogers my nose". "I want potty." (we bought her a potty about 3 months ago and periodically she gets really into sitting on it, but mostly its just there next to the big toilet for the time when she's really ready!!) She says, "I wanna jump."Yes, we let our child jump on the couch. How do you discipline your child but still let them be a child and have fun? and how to do you be stern but still understanding? Oh, these are the questions I ask in my head daily and I think I'm figuring it out slowly. it's just such a wonder to watch her explore and learn new things. Last week she fell off a chair and hit her head on a table at the library. she split her head open. First site of blood for me on my child. we got through it with a trip to the doc and a popsicle.
Today we had a snow day. It took her a while to realize she could actually get these snowpants wet as opposed to her regular pants. She actually let me put gloves on her, too, because she is starting to get that warm gloves equals warm hands. Look at that face!
She really got into when I showed her how to eat the snow.
we tried to build a snow man, but this is no Utah snow. We pretty much just stomped our feet in the snow and built a pile. The dog had fun, too. Brad saw this picture and said, 'oh no, she's learned the cheesy smile'. Such a cute phase kids go through.
we're trying to teach her to be a "polite child". She does pretty well with please and thank you and hopefully that will last through her 2's. She is starting to get real sassy and feisty. She is starting to kind of fold her arms during prayers and she'll actually say amen when it's done.
...and some cocoa. I am slowly turning her into her mama's girl.
On Sunday, Brad's bro Steve came for a quick visit. (and we had a great time having him here)That was the start of my feeling like I was at deaths door. I got so sick saturday night and am still feeling the lesser effects of it now. After a doc visit, blood draws, ultrasound (not that happy fuzzy feeling kind of ultrasound you're thinking of), a CT scan, and an iv, I am pleased to say that there is nothing seriously wrong with me. As my sister said, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and am on my way to willing myself to a full recovery. It was pretty scary there for a second, but I learned to not read the internet and to let people help you. This is the first time I have been truly sick and still have the responsibilities of being a mother. I have the nicest and dearest friends here in Kville who would do anything for us- and did. Thanks to you all. You know who you are.And way to go Brad for stepping it up and "neglecting" his studies to be Mr. Mom for the week. I'm the happiest girl in the world!

orange moments

Just got finished sharing some orange slices with my baby girl. Could life get any better than sharing some sour faces, sweet expressions, laughter, simplicity and delishiousness? Hope you enjoy all your "orange moments".

Our Christmas Vacay...for real this time.

How do you sum up 3 terrific weeks with no responsibilities and being with the ones you love.
Here's a quick sample: (definitly in no particular order because computers give me grief!)
Celebrated our 5th year anniversay. What an amazing adventure it's been.

yes, I went to the Neil. And yes, we sat between two older folk who didn't even stand when others did, and yes we were in front of a family who all wore diamond studded shirts, and yes, we stood and pumped our arms and screamed along to the words of Sweet Caroline (which he sang twice, and yes, I sure missed my Brad, but Amy was fun and dinner before with the rest of the family was to die for (get the steak sandwich at Salt Lake Brewing company if you ever get the change) and yes, Neil Diamond is immortal!
Christmas p.j.'s
Brad surprised us and took us down for a free ride on the "train". Couldn't have been more fun for chloe to stand and wait for it to come and then ride it and watch the other one pass by. Everything is so exciting and new for her. I love it and never get tired of her joy.

Took the Chambers family picture.
Drove up to Logan and visited Great Marie and Grandpa. They are so spry and healthy.

Merry Christmas from Brad, Mel and Chloe Chambers. In front of my parent's christmas tree. My mom always decorates her house so "magical". She even leaves us a chocolate on our pillow when we come to town. She always has the christmas lights twinkling and her house just feels warm and smells good and I just love being there so much.

Christmas morning. I've heard of kids not really getting into the presents or whatever but this kid couldn't stop looking at the train the Chambers have. She watched it go round and round and never did decide to open her presents.

My family goes bowling on Christmas Eve. We have had this tradition forever. We all bring food and the bowling alley even sets us up a little table. The same families are usually there bowling as well. My dad gives quarters for strikes and wearing christmas color, etc. The Nelson family with a few missing.

The grandkids. The oldest is 17 (not pictured) and the young is 16 months (not pictured) The kids always have a great time. This year was fun because they sort of just took little Chloe and watched her and played with her and loved her.
Chloe liked to bowl.

Brad and I had this wish list of all the places we wanted to eat while we were in Utah. My mom took part in granting most of those wishes. Here we are at Neil's fish and chips. Best halibut fish and chips in town. Quite expensive though.
Ahhh....Temple square. Love it there.
The first day I was there my mom and I baked and baked. This was so great because Brad and I have been "off sugar" for a couple weeks in preparation of the anticipated Christmas goodies. We just talked and baked.

These are my cute college friends (with one missing) we try and get together when we can. I love seeing my old friends and especially seeing what cute babies they all make.
I'm sure my sister doesn't love celebrating her birthday so close to Christmas every year, but it always is a great excuse to go to lunch with the girls. We have a lot of pictures just like this.
Starsky Chambers meet Diesel Dean.
And that, combined with a couple ski outings, shopping outings, lunch outings, movies, Play Nine, 5 crowns, delicious food, and much more...WAS OUR CHRISTMAS BREAK.

101 Things to do before I die...

I've been thinking about this list of mine lately (probably because it's the new year and I'm thinking of goals and "newness" and change). I just got finished watching the Ironman Triathlon from Kona, Hawaii. I think i've been watching this event, off and on, since I was pretty young. I'd flip the channels on a random saturday during the fall and catch the condensed coverage of the event. I remember always feeling touched by the awesome narration of the event and the heroic accomplishment of the athletes that cross the finish line. And yes...I did get teary eyed then and I full on cry now. I just shake my head and smile and kind of weap as I see these people finish what they sacrificed so much to compete in. The elite athletes finish the 2 mile swim in around 55 minutes, the 150 mile bike ride in under 5 hours and the 26 mile run around 2:45. The "age-grouppers" (people like you and me, but probably a little more commited and motivated) finish in about 12-15 hours. Some finish just before midnight which is the cutoff. There were people who had aritificial limbs, in wheelchairs, short, heavyset, tall, young and old. One of the last people to finish was a woman who had competed in her 17th Ironman. She was 72 years old. The narrator said, "she's 72, how old are you??" He also added, "what did she sacrifice to finish this race? What did that man sacrifice to finish? What did their families sacrifice to help them finish?"
I've always been really impressed with individual events. I'm not so into the traditional team sports that generate millions of dollars to fill their stadiums so people can watch people who get paid gazillions. The endurance athletes are the one's who impress me the most. I love seeing and knowing that they are out there alone with their thoughts and their will to finish and not give up. I grew up standing at the end of many marathons and watching my dad finish, among the elites, and I'd get teary eyed, because I knew how much he had sacrificed to be there. I ran a marathon, and yes, i had water in my eyes because I knew how much I had sacrificed to get to experience that. I've done a few mini triathlons and I have to say that it was a major accomplishment and success for me because everytime I get out of the water I know I didn't drown and I can get on with the run and the bike where I feel more comfortable. Try something hard, accomplish it, and then try something else that is hard. Will I do a full ironman someday? Probably not, but Brad says he wants to do one someday and I will be the one at the finish line...with tears in her eyes.
And this probably should be on my life list, but it isn't. In highschool, I was a closet Neil Diamond fan. Now I am open about my love for his catchy lyrics (seriously, Sweet Caroline, Coming to America, Forever in Blue Jeans, etc.), snazzy diamond studded clothes, (guess you can do that with a gem of a last name), and deep voice. My cute Brad surprised me with a ticket to see him live at the Delta Center (he out did himself with a fun scavenger hunt to lead me to the tickets)Unfortunatly, he will still be in Missouri, but I get to go with my sister. Other members of our family will be there, also, but we're not sitting with them. I can't wait.

Creating.

I've really been trying to get ready for christmas since we've been back from Thanksgiving. This year I wanted to get all my present bought and wrapped (which I did, yeah!) so that I could truly enjoy the spirit of Christmas and family when we go visit in Utah. This year I decided to make several Christmas gifts as well. Luckily I got the last thing finished on Monday because that night Chloe became really sick. Because she has had 2 seizures that have accompanied her 2 major illnesses we are extra cautious when she gets ill. So, long night into a short story. We went to the doc she couldn't find anything, so we went to the hospital and had her blood drawn and she had to have her urine collected via a catheter and then they found some bacteria so she had to have a shot of antibiotic then back today for another dose of antibiotic. It is pretty taumatic to have to hold your child down to have a catheter put in. Yikes! B-rad was able to come with us and help out and that made me so grateful. He's only a second year med student but I find myself asking him 21 questions about everything the doc has said. It helps reassure me. Anyway, here are some pics of what we've been up to.
This is a picture of my dulce de leche plate. If you want to impress your friends take a can on sweetened and condensed milk and put the whole thing (unopened) in a boiling stockpot of water and just let it dance for about 2 hours. Make sure the water never goes under the top of the can. When you remove the cooled can lid you have this rich carmel dip. Amazing, I know! I couldn't believe my eyes.
Me and the Chloe Blue. She has been extra cuddly. Brad got the boot last night and she and I shared the bed. She even took Brads pillow. He loves his down pillow so that was a major sacrifice for him.
My purse. My cute friends were going to help me make this but we never connected so I was kind of forced to just pick through the pattern on my own. Although, i did ask them tons of questions. There was something SO satisfying about finishing this project. I really admire people that can sew. I don't think I can say "i can't sew" anymore because i've really made quite a few things. I've learned quite a lot from my little projects. Namely, it's really important to measure correctly or your pieces don't match up, needle break!, there will be lots of unpicking, and relax your shoulder muscles!!
This was a project my friend showed to us group of med school wives. I made a couple of these. This is the one for Chloe's room. The little red circle is a magnet. I love to jazz things up with sequins.

I really like the show design on a dime. I watch that show and think of all the stuff I could make. If only I had a staple gun, a nail gun, and 1000 dollars. I do have some projects on the new year horizon, though.
And, I decided to opt out of the Christmas card creation this year. I came to this decision after I had already bought the stamps though!! So, know that you are all loved and we will post our Christmas fun later.
