I don't know if any of you remember, but Chloe, Ezra and I missed our flight from Portland, home to Illinois. After a fun and long trip (almost 2 months) I couldn't imagine how crappy it would be to hear the words, "you won't be flying today." So, during this super frustrating hour of figuring out what to do next, I heard the worker mention to her customer that "people just think they deserve so much these days. They just think they should be treated like royalty". Umm...yeah, if that comment was directed at me, yes, I do deserve to be treated well when 1. it was the airlines fault, and 2. I paid ALOT of money to be on this flight. So, since then i've kind of been noticing my attitude toward what kind of service I DO expect as a customer. It kind of seems like customer service has sortof gotten this huge division. It's either amazing or really lame. Does anyone agree?
I got some really really bad service a little bit ago and I felt I deserved better. Long story short, I called the manager to mention how poorly we were treated (in light of the fact we paid for service that cost upward of 100 bucks so yes, I felt like we should've been treated pretty good) I have never called on bad service before. Have any of you? I did, because the service performed wasn't even satisfactory so I thought he should know about it. Anyway, he was super appreciative and a little sad at the fact that his employee was lame so he gave us a gift card. We went back to the store...awesome service this time. I went back just the other day...bad bad bad service, like mean mean service. So, I'm just not ever going back there and they won't miss my business. Have you ever been treated so poorly that you just almost wanted to burst?
So, the other day we were at McDonalds. I was waiting in the crowded line when Merlin appeared and asked my how many straws I would need. Would I like ketchup, napkins?? He quickly returned with all of my extras, a high chair, and cookies for the kids. He then followed me to my seat and then went to pick up my order for me AND got our drinks. Merlin, you are great. So, I went and told his manager how amazing the service was and that we were treated so great. I don't expect to be treated like royalty, but man he made me FEEL like royalty and it brought a smile to all of our faces (the kids, me, the lady he helped next to me, the lady he helped behind me..)
Once when I was a working lady, I used to go to Reams in Utah and there was this awesome worker there and I actually called a radio station to have them give a "shout out" to this worker. She probably never heard it, but she deserved the praise.
And that's what I want to say about customer service. Said it.

I guess the really bad service makes you appreciate the good service so much more...in Dominica, there was Some days we would go to the "bread shop" and there would be one loaf of bread on the shelf and they would refuse to sell it to us. So, yeah, I've been mistreated to the point of wanting to burst. I always wonder what must be going on in some people's lives to make them so mean to someone they don't even know. I hope you get more people like Merlin and less crankies in the future :)
The answer is yes! I have wanted to burst. And yes, I have complained because the girl was a jerk and then offered the reciept with the survey things and told my I should go complete it - silly girl. I try to be really vocal when someone is good at their service. At restaurants I'll leave a comment card telling them how awesome our server was, and I usually get a gift certificate in the mail to so it's a double bonus.
Yep I have definately had good and bad service. I do find however if I ask the person first how they are that they totally treat me differently. It just seems like alot of customer service people these days don't like their job or they don't feel appreciated. So being overly nice to some of them I think helps. I am glad you had a good experience with Merlin...and all the cranky ones...well you know where they can go!!!
props to Merlin! Sorry about your airline experience...that is so frusturating.
It was fun to catch up on your blog, I know just how you feel being a family of three...I guess it will all be worth it someday!
The last time we stayed in a hotel we asked for extra towels 2 times and never got them. That made me mad!
Your blog makes me laugh. Sometimes Venna STILL asks about Chloe. She made some kind of super impression on Venna. Must have been that time your dog ran smack into her. That was sad/funny:)
